About the WVGSA
The West Virginia General Summative Assessment (WVGSA) is the state's annual test for grades 3 through 8 in math, English language arts, and science (science only in grades 5 and 8). The math assessment is built on the West Virginia College- and Career-Readiness Standards for Mathematics, the state's post-Common-Core framework. WVGSA is delivered online by the state's test vendor, with the spring 2026 window running from April 13 through May 22, 2026. Districts schedule their own testing days inside that state window, and individual schools may spread testing across several sittings depending on grade and class.
Score reports place each student into one of four achievement levels - Does Not Meet Standard, Partially Meets Standard, Meets Standard, or Exceeds Standard - with Meets Standard being the on-grade-level threshold. Each report includes a grade-specific scale score, the achievement level, and reporting-category sub-scores by content domain (concepts and procedures, problem solving and modeling, communicating reasoning). Because the state's standards are derived from Common Core, families using a Common Core-aligned practice program will find topic coverage maps cleanly to what students see on the WVGSA.
