About the IAR

The Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) replaced PARCC in 2019 and continues to use PARCC-derived items aligned to the Illinois Learning Standards, which are the Common Core State Standards adopted by ISBE. All math testing in grades 3 through 8 is delivered online through the PearsonAccessNext platform, with a paper accommodation available only for students with documented needs. Each grade has two math sessions, including extended constructed-response items that ask students to show work and explain reasoning, not just produce a numeric answer.

Score reports place students in five tiers, with Level 4 (Met Expectations) treated by ISBE as the proficiency bar for Every Student Succeeds Act reporting. Question types include traditional multiple choice, multi-select, drag-and-drop, equation editor, and technology-enhanced items that mirror PARCC item families. Briveli practice for Illinois students focuses heavily on multi-step word problems, fraction reasoning in grades 3-5, ratios and proportional relationships in grade 6-7, and linear equations and functions in grade 8, mirroring the IAR blueprint weights ISBE publishes each year.
