About the KAP
The Kansas Assessment Program (KAP) is developed by the University of Kansas Achievement and Assessment Institute under contract with the Kansas State Department of Education. Math items align to the Kansas College and Career Ready Standards for Mathematics, which the state adopted in 2017 as a revision of its earlier Common Core adoption. KSDE describes the standards as Kansas-owned, but content overlap with CCSS-M is high, so Common Core practice transfers well to KAP.
KAP math is delivered fully online via the Kite Student Portal, the same delivery system Kansas uses for its Dynamic Learning Maps alternate assessment. Item types include multiple choice, multi-select, drag-and-drop, equation editor, and short constructed response. Score reports place students in four levels, with Level 3 designated as on track for college readiness; Level 4 indicates students are exceeding expectations. Briveli practice for Kansas tracks the KSDE blueprint emphases: foundational fluency in grades 3-5 and proportional reasoning, expressions, and functions in grades 6-8.
