ILEARN Math Practice

About the ILEARN

ILEARN is built on the Indiana Academic Standards, which Indiana adopted in 2014 after formally repealing the Common Core. In practice the math standards remain very close to CCSS-M, so Common Core-aligned practice maps cleanly onto the ILEARN blueprint. The summative is a computer-adaptive test delivered through Cambium Assessment, the same engine that powers Smarter Balanced. Items adjust in difficulty based on student responses, which means students will see different question sequences but a comparable blueprint coverage by domain.

For 2025-26, ILEARN math and ELA in grades 3-8 use a through-year design: students take three shorter Checkpoints across the school year plus one end-of-year summative assessment, per the Indiana Department of Education. The three Checkpoints are spaced through fall, winter, and early spring, and the summative window follows in the spring. Other ILEARN tests (Science in grades 4 and 6, Social Studies in grade 5, and the high school Biology and U.S. Government End-of-Course Assessments) remain single end-of-year summatives. Briveli practice emphasizes the Number Sense, Computation, and Algebraic Thinking strands the IDOE blueprint weights highest in grades 3-5, and Algebra & Functions plus Geometry & Measurement in grades 6-8.
