About the AzM2
Arizona's statewide math test is the AzM2, short for Arizona's Academic Standards Assessment. The test was renamed from AASA in 2024 (and from AzMERIT before that) but the underlying blueprint is unchanged: it measures the Arizona Mathematics Standards, the state's 2016 rewrite of the Common Core. AzM2 is given to all public-school students in grades 3 through 8, plus a high-school end-of-course battery. The math test is delivered online through Pearson's TestNav platform; a paper accommodation form is available on request through the district test coordinator.
AzM2 reports four performance levels — Minimally Proficient, Partially Proficient, Proficient, and Highly Proficient — and the state defines Proficient as the on-grade-level bar used for federal accountability and the A-F school letter grades. Each math test runs roughly 75 to 90 minutes and is split into two sessions: a non-calculator session and, beginning in grade 6, a calculator-allowed session using the embedded TestNav calculator. Family score reports are released through ADEConnect and include sub-claim performance in Concepts & Procedures, Problem Solving & Data Analysis, and Communicating Reasoning.
