About Bridges in Mathematics
Bridges in Mathematics is a comprehensive K-5 program from The Math Learning Center that blends direct instruction, structured investigation, and open exploration. Each grade is divided into eight Units, and every Unit is built from sequenced Sessions that use visual models, hands-on materials, and number talks. The program is famous for its emphasis on representation: students move from concrete manipulatives to pictorial models like number lines, arrays, and the number rack, and finally to abstract symbolic work. Districts choose Bridges when they want a research-based curriculum that develops conceptual understanding alongside fluency.
Although Bridges is a commercial program, the Math Learning Center publishes many supporting resources openly, and the curriculum is widely used in public schools across the United States. Each grade also includes a Number Corner daily routine that reinforces calendar math, place value, and operations. Briveli aligns its K-5 practice tracks to the eight Units per grade so that families can find targeted reinforcement for whichever Unit their child is working on, especially around fractions, multi-digit operations, and geometry where Bridges spends significant instructional time.
